State lawmakers debate 'Right to Die'
The right to die is up for debate.
State lawmakers held a public hearing in Manhattan Thursday regarding a proposal for physician-assisted suicide. It would allow terminally ill people to end their life with medication.
If passed, it would require two doctors to sign off on the request.
The right to die has been debated in the Legislature for years, but the state Supreme Court upheld a ban back in September.
Similar legislation is already in effect in Washington, D.C. and seven states.
According to a Gallup poll from last year, 73 percent of Americans favor physician-assisted suicide. Do you?
