The 2022 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is returning
to Coney Island this Fourth of July. The competitors met there Friday to be
weighed in.
World champion competitive eater Joey Chestnut returns to
the contest, but not without an uphill battle to get here.
“Back in December, I broke both bones in the leg,” said
Chestnut. “I can stand, my jaws are working and my stomach is working, and I’m
not gonna let it slow me down.”
Chestnut set the world record last year by eating 76 hotdogs
in 10 minutes. This year, the contest returns to the corner of Surf and
Stillwell avenues after being moved for the past two years due to
COVID-19 procedures.
Going up against Chestnut will be Nick Wehry, who will be
competing alongside his wife, Miki Sudo, the No. 1 ranked female
competitive eater.
The contest begins at 11 a.m. on July 4.
