A condominium complex in Middlesex County became the site of a deadly shooting involving police, according to the state Attorney General's Office.

Acting Attorney General Matt Platkin says that a law enforcement officer fatally shot a man on Ravens Crest Drive around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that the man was renting an apartment in the complex and was in the process of being evicted.

Platkin’s office confirmed that police “were outside a residence when they encountered the decedent…During the encounter, one officer discharged his service weapon, fatally wounding the man. A knife was recovered near the man." No further details were provided.

News 12 saw a lengthy evidence collection taking place following the shooting. Among the items spotted were a large knife, handcuffs, wire believed to be from the discharge of a Taser, as well as shells from the gunfire.

One neighbor tells News 12 that he was inside his home when the shooting happened, and had a perfect view of the event.

“I hear like five or six shots at once,” the neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, said, “There was no screaming, no noise. The guy was completely silent after that, as far as I could hear.”

The neighbor says that soon after the shooting he watched EMTs perform CPR on the man who was shot.

Another neighbor says that the man was being evicted but did not want to leave, and that’s when he got into an altercation with police.

The man’s name was not released.

The state Office of the Attorney General is investigating the incident, which is standard in use of force cases.
