Neighbors say that rats spotted near the Phipps Houses are coming from a nearby park.

Video taken by a resident shows the rats climbing and running around garbage left in the area.

They claim the rats come from Drew Playground.

People who frequent the park say rats have been an issue for years, and although rats have been exterminated in the past they keep coming back.

According to the Parks Department, the playground was treated by an exterminator on Aug. 29.

The department says it would send an exterminator out again this week to reassess the situation and take additional action.

Neighbors say they want more garbage cans in the park to encourage others to throw out their trash, and also want the Parks Department to trim hedges they say are providing ground cover for rats.
