Neighbors in Port Morris say car break-ins have been happening for years near Bruckner Boulevard and the Willis Avenue Bridge entrance, and are now demanding that something be done to rectify the situation.

Residents told News 12 they found 11 cars broken into overnight Sunday, but with nothing missing inside. However, they said the windows were smashed and that they were left picking up the bill.

They say the bill is sometimes more than $200 each time. Residents say the break-ins have been going on sporadically, with about half-dozen incidents over the last two years.

Residents say they've tried to report the damage, but waited more than an hour and a half for police on Monday before having to leave to work.

Residents say that the abandoned and unlit nearby Pulaski Park is a contributing factor to the problem. They say more lights should be added.

Residents say they are working with the community board to get the problem under control. They hope whoever is causing all the damage is caught before they strike again.

The Department of Transportation released a statement saying,"We are aware of community concerns and have initiated a street lighting study for Bruckner Blvd, near Pulaski Park. The study is expected to be completed in December."
