Food Bank NYC reports that more than 1 million New Yorkers are food insecure. Today, city officials were raising awareness about how a local food pantry can help.

Community members can pick up toiletries and clothing —all for free. The Neighborhood Opportunity Network (NEON) is run by the Department of Probation with locations across the city.

People can get fresh produce as well as nonperishable foods and even learn how to prepare a healthy meal.

Inflation has many Americans watching their pockets and spending more than ever at the grocery store, and the pandemic made access to healthy food even more difficult for marginalized communities.

Organizers at the pantry emphasized the unique challenges that low-income and immigrant communities face.

The Bronx Pantry is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Brooklyn Pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

NEON fed around 500,000 New Yorkers in 2021.
