People in New Canaan are talking about ways to combat cyber threats.

The third annual Cybersecurity Collaboration Conference was held at Grace Farms Tuesday.

Representatives from law enforcement and the private sector gathered together to brainstorm.

The event focused on how to prevent and respond to data breaches or cyber threats.

Congressman Jim Himes says cybersecurity is an issue that affects everyone, from corporations to private citizens.

"People really need to think hard about what they do online,” said Rep. Himes.  “You know very few people are going to leave their house unlocked when they go for vacation, but an awful lot of people do the equivalent of that when they're operating online. So we have a lot of work to do to make sure people understand the things they can do to stay safe." 

Experts say it's important for people to be aware of phishing scam emails, have a secure wireless network or router, update devices with the latest operating system, and use two-factor authentication to sign into email.
