There’s a new commanding officer in the city's second-largest police precinct.
Capt. Carlos Ghonz is the new commanding officer of the 45th Precinct. Ghonz has spent 13 years with the NYPD.
Ghonz was previously the executive officer at the 46th Precinct in Fordham -- a much smaller department, he says, compared to his current post that covers more than 11 square miles and five different neighborhoods.
“If there's one thing I want for this community now…I am wholeheartedly dedicated to make sure they are safe when coming and going to work,” he says. “That's my promise to them.”
Ghonz replaces Danielle Raia, who was transferred and placed on modified duty pending a payroll investigation.
Ghonz, who has been on the job for about three months, says one of his priorities is community relations. Under his leadership, officers are being encouraged to respond in person to quality-of-life issues.
