New Destiny Housing operates six buildings throughout The Bronx that are specifically geared toward supporting survivors of domestic violence.
The buildings have apartments, trauma-informed case managers on site, programming and more. The units provide safe, stable, affordable and supportive housing to survivors and their families.
"Domestic violence is the number one reason for homelessness in the city. So it has become a passion of mine and our whole team at New Destiny to create new ways to provide housing for survivors," said Nicole Branca, CEO of New Destiny Housing.
Branca told News 12 housing is the first step to healing. News 12 also spoke with Nicole Campbell, a domestic violence survivor.
She lives in Lily House, one of New Destiny's buildings in University Heights.
She said she fled her abuser in North Carolina and came back home to New York with her three children. Her shelter connected her with New Destiny Housing, and then she was able to move into Lily House.
She said ever since she moved in, she's felt a sense of relief and has seen her children improve, too.
"I see the change. They're much happier. We do a lot of laughing, a lot," said Campbell. She said she wants other survivors to take advantage of the resources around them so they can build stronger communities together.
