New Haven County has reached a "high" level of COVID-19 community transmission, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed Thursday.

That means there's 100 or more cases per 100,000 people or a positivity rate of 10% or higher in the past seven days. It's the first Connecticut county to reach this level of community transmission.

All other counties in Connecticut are currently at a "substantial" level of COVID-19 transmission, according to the CDC.

Amir Mohammad, the director of health in Orange, says this isn't the time to panic, but rather a time to lean on old habits such as wearing masks in public places indoors and getting vaccinated.

In light of the new data, the Connecticut Department of Public Health strongly recommends people who are unvaccinated to get the shot.
