New Jersey native reunited with family after being held hostage in Gaza for 19 months

Tenafly, New Jersey native Edan Alexander has been reunited with his family after spending more than 19 months being held captive.

The now-21-year-old was released to the Red Cross Monday afternoon and was quickly returned to his family.

Alexander is an Israeli American soldier who was kidnapped from his base during the Oct. 7 attack. Hamas released Alexander as a goodwill gesture toward the Trump administration.

The news of Alexander’s release was celebrated around the world. Thousands gathered in Tenafly in celebration.

It was unclear when Alexander would return to New Jersey.
