If you're headed out to the airport anytime soon, there's a new law that may apply to you.Starting Tuesday, all citizens of the United States, Mexico, Canada and Bermuda flying into the U.S. from the Western Hemisphere must have a valid passport. That includes travel from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. In the past, citizens only needed to have a birth certificate or driver's license. The law is part of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 that included recommendations from the 9/11 Commission. As early as January 1, 2008, the rule will also apply to those traveling by land or sea.The State Department says it issued a record 12.1 million passports to U.S. citizens for the last fiscal year and anticipates issuing 16 million more this year.
