NYU Langone is partnering with Bay Ridge Community Development Center to bring free hearing loss screenings to the community. 

The goal of this is to help spread awareness that could be the answers to some parents’ questions on how their child can perform better in school.  

"It’s very important for a child, even a few months old, to really know if they have hearing loss. It affects their development, it affects their school performance," said Marie Homsi, pediatric otolaryngologist at NYU Langone. 

This marks the first free hearing loss screening since the launch of the program with Bay Ridge Community Development Center this year. 

The screenings take around 60 seconds to complete and once the results are in, doctors can determine if treatment is needed. 

Homsi says that this knowledge can really help paint a better picture for why your child may be struggling in the classroom.  

“Sometimes, we would think our kid just doesn’t want to focus in the classroom,” said Homsi. “But actually, maybe he's not hearing the teacher very well.” 

You can get the next screening on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Temple of Restoration in Brooklyn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
