There are new safety measures at Williamsbridge Oval Park after months of concerns from residents.

The NYPD and elected officials have added new cameras and lighting in the park following past violence, including the August stabbing death of 14-year-old Angel Mendoza.

State Sen. Gustavo Rivera sponsored the installation of 20 cameras in and around the recreation center. The Parks Department oversees those.

The NYPD added two cameras that oversee the track area of the park.

Council Member Eric Dinowitz also said he secured $10 million for improvements, and that the cameras and lights are a good start.

"I think we can always use more. I think a lot of it is peace of mind. But they're certainly having an impact. I think people know, that the police are here watching, making sure they're keeping us safe. And they haven't reported any incidents," said Dinowitz.

Residents say the upgrades are good to see, but many hope more cameras and safety measures will be added before the busy summer season.
