After suffering severe damage from Superstorm Sandy in 2012,
the New York Aquarium is now fully open.
On Friday, the Wildlife Conservatory Society inaugurated the
aquarium alongside city and state officials.
The aquarium has been gradually reopening some of its
exhibits since 2018.
Visitors on Friday were greeted by playful sea lions inside
the newest underwater exhibit “Sea Change”.
“Sea Change really focuses on the effects of climate change
on animals and the places they live in the wild,” said Sue Chin, chief
architect at the New York Aquarium.
Aquarium officials say they now have a strong plan in the
event of another storm, which includes flood gates and pumps through the
building to prevent flooding and damages.
