Volunteers across the city have picked up an important role in making sure the less fortunate are fed during the pandemic.
New York Cares is an organization dedicated to feeding those who are hungry, with an army of volunteers and thousands of new recruits. They are making care packages by the thousands.
"As a volunteer, you know that even in this time of social distancing volunteers can be a great way for all of us to maintain that connection that human basic connection of reaching out to others,” said New York Cares volunteer Phara Policar.
At a time when almost everyone is staying home, the list of volunteers is actually growing.  They are even helping out online.
"We get to be on the ground but we also have the opportunity to volunteer virtually. So I've been working on piloting a new program reaching out to seniors,” said  Policar.
Their goal is to pay it forward even after the pandemic.
