The New York City City Council held a joint oversight hearing to address the dangerous trend of subway surfing and figure out how to stop it.

Four different committees came together this morning, including transportation, public safety, education, and children and youth to question key agencies like the MTA, the NYPD, and the department of education.

They want to understand why subway surfing keeps happening — and evaluate whether the city’s public awareness campaign to stop it is having an impact.

City leaders also reviewed the latest statistics on subway surfing incidents and enforcement.
