New Yorkers came together for a demonstration of the annual Black Solidarity Day at Restoration Plaza in Bed-Stuy Monday.

Organizers tell News 12 it was inspired by a play called “Day of Absence” and is held on the Monday before Election Day.

Activists started at the site of the Black Lives Matter mural and marched down Fulton Street to raise awareness of the event.

Monday was the 51st anniversary of Black Solidarity Day, which has been observed before an election for decades.

Demonstrators chanted "no work, no school, no shopping" --a way to abstain from participating in society to show the impact of Black labor, Black education and spending power in the economy.

They say the focus of the march was unity and that this year has been a tumultuous year for the Black community.
