As New York is being hit by the brutally high temps during a potential heat wave, state officials are warning New Yorkers to keep in mind of the air quality being impacted as well.
The Department of Environmental Conservation issued an air quality health advisory, predicting high levels of air pollution thanks in part to those high temperatures.
To help New Yorkers stay cool, the Parks Department announced it would extend its pool hours until 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Temperatures are looking to reach the high-90s this week and will feel even hotter. Health experts say people should avoid any difficult outdoor activities, especially young children or folks who have respiratory diseases such as asthma.
People may want to stay indoors during the hottest times of the day as well, which typically fall between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The city also opened its cooling centers for New Yorkers to beat the heat.
