News 12 hosts Scholar Athlete Recognition Ceremony for Bronx's Scholar Athletes

Welcome back. It's a story. We're all excited for tonight. The celebration for some of the best and the brightest from right here in the borough. Yeah. News 12 sports director Pat o'keefe has the story. It was an evening to honor the top scholar athletes in the Bronx. Our annual News 12, the Bronx scholar athlete recognition ceremony hosted by the program's sponsor Eastchester Chrysler Jeep do. We featured 30 scholar athletes from October to June three scholarship winners were announced this evening including Amara Jagan, a basketball player from Bathgate Educational Complex who was salutatorian of his graduating class with a 97 average and will be attending NYU Shanghai. This feels so surreal. I mean, I worked hard for this, you know, all four years of high school. I've been all my stuff with school and basketball and this is just kind of like a gift and a good gift going on to my next milestone of my life. Krista and Colo was the captain of the ST Barnabas volleyball team with a 3.7 GPA when their coach left days before the season, it looked like they wouldn't be able to have a season until cologne stepped up, helped organize practices and led Barnabas to an undefeated season and league championship. I just feel so proud of everyone on my team, everyone that I've been here that has helped me here and just my coach, he's been a real part of this. Like I'm just very, very grateful and Cardinal Hayes, all American sprinter Lucas Kon Perez, a member of the Cardinals four by 400 m state championship relay team last year who has a 37 GPA and will be running to vision one track for Mount Saint Mary's really emotional. Personally, I think all the nominees had their own amazing stories to tell. I've been keeping up and I've been inspired by their own stories. I just felt like in my own humble opinion, there was lots of stories that the top minds, but the fact that I was chosen like it is just a blessing. Thank you so much since the program's inception, Eastchester Chrysler, Jeep Dodge Ram has awarded more than $10,000 in scholarship money to Bronx scholar athletes. I'm Pat o'keefe.
