It’s been more than two weeks since the subway system started overnight shutdowns for cleaning.
Due to the subway cleanings, the city has added extra buses to help essential workers get to where they need to go.
Overnight, News 12 cameras captured several buses across the Bronx to see what the buses have been like overnight for essential workers. Around 2:30 p.m. at the Bay Plaza stop, the Bx12 had only a few people waiting for them. For the most part buses were only transferring five to 10 people at a time.
News 12 also noticed that buses down 163rd Street, Morris Park Avenue and White Plains Road were completely empty. The Yankee Stadium Bx12 and Bx13 had a similar situation, as the Hunts Point Avenue stop had several people waiting, including what appeared to be constriction workers.

Overnight subway cleaning has been going for more than two weeks now. Trains shut down between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., daily.
Essential workers who depend on the subway can take the bus for free during those hours. We know the city has added more than 300 additional buses overnight, with local buses running every 20 minutes and express running every 30 minutes to get people home or to work.
