For the 12th straight year, News 12 The Bronx is shining a light on the struggles women and men face in abusive relationships.
The annual DiVA Talk special spreads awareness about the difficult and emotional issue. It's all part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October.
Survivor Helen Kempas is among those who shared her personal story in hopes of helping other victims.
According to the Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence, 16 people died at the hands of their abusers in the Bronx last year alone.
