From canvassing the streets of Brooklyn to hanging his canvases in Mott Haven, a local artist is being showcased during National Police Week.

Working as an officer with Brooklyn North’s Warrant Squad, Herold Alexis has seen every angle of the city’s street.

“Each one of the paintings is a small story of the police that happens every day citywide, but no one ever sees,” says Alexis.

In 2016, he felt it was time for others to see those stories.

“The assassination of Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, it played in my mind for many years to the point where I was only able to deal by painting,” says Alexis. 

Through his painting he hoped to capture the heartbreak of officers who lost a partner to gun violence in the Bronx

His paintings also feature people dancing alongside their fellow members in blue at the West Indian Day Parade.

“It is a way of showing the community and police together. It something you don’t see every day, but it goes on throughout the city,” says Alexis.

His collection is called “No Guns, No Bullets, Just Heart” and the pieces are for sale.
