Police say there was both a shooting and a car fire in Spuyten Duyvil on Monday morning.
The NYPD says the car caught fire in the garage of towering Century Apartment Complex around 8 a.m.
Minutes later, police say a 30-year-old man was shot in the ankle in the same area.
Police say the man drove himself 14 miles to a Manhattan hospital and is expected to be OK.
Residents say this is not common for the neighborhood, and that they are shocked by the crime.
"That doesn't really happen here," said resident Marci Mann. "I’m really horrified to hear that."
"Nothing but birds chirping every morning, and squirrels running around," said resident Craig Stagg. "It's beautiful."
The NYPD says it is unsure if the two incidents are connected.
