Bronx women have a place to go to if they need any type of support.
The ‘Not on My Watch’ nonprofit in Allerton is a center for self-esteem building and more.
Executive Director Pamela Damon hosts human trafficking awareness and teen dating and domestic violence training programs.
The center runs a free, six-week summer program called ‘SELFIE,’ which stands for Self Esteem Lessons For Individual Empowerment.
On Saturdays, it has a ‘GLAM’ class, which stands for Girls, Ladies, Advocates and Mentors.
“We focus on empowering women. We focus on giving our girls voice within their communities, within their schools,” said Damon.
Anything that women need - Damon makes it happen.
She brings in guest speakers, medical trainers, nutritionists, doulas, anyone that could help foster knowledge and intelligence in young women.
She also places sex trafficking resources and empowerment cards in public places, so women know they’re not alone.
“Believe in yourself. Use your voice. Silence is never golden. Speak up. You are here for a reason. For a time and a season, and this is your time to succeed," she says.
