Historic Nunley's carousel reopens after being closed since 2020

A Long Island treasure has reopened its doors.
Nunley's Carousel reopened Tuesday morning after it was forced to close in 2020 due to the pandemic.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Museum Row in Uniondale as the historic carousel reopened under the management of Long Island Children's Museum.
Guests, young and old, were glad to see the Long Island mainstay back open.
Maureen Clarke remembers being a child riding the merry-go-round at Nunley's Amusement Park in Baldwin. When the amusement park closed in 1995, Nassau County acquired it.
"Nunley's is great - I took my three kids there and now I'm here with my granddaughter," Clarke says. "We have been waiting for two years for it to open."
The 110-year-old carousel has 41 horses, two chariots and one lion.
The carousel will be open Thursdays to Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be closed from Sept. 12 to Oct. 3 for the LICM fall fix-up.
It costs $4 a ride.
