The New York City Council Committee voted on Friday against a proposal to ban horse-drawn carriages in Central Park.
The bill, known as Ryder’s Law, was named after a horse that died after collapsing on a street in 2022.
The union representing carriage drivers applauded the committee’s decision, saying a ban would have led to major job loss.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has previously voiced support for the proposal.
Animal rights organizations say they will continue to push for the ban.
