About 171 senior centers part of the DFTA shutdown in March due to COVID-19 concerns.

The New York City's Department for the Aging celebrated National Senior Citizens Day, reflecting on how many seniors were hit at the height of the pandemic.
About 171 senior centers part of the DFTA shutdown in March due to COVID-19 concerns.
The network with centers like the Neighborhood Shopp Senior Center in the Bronx, to the Brownsville Social Club In Brooklyn, transitioned from in-person programming to video conferencing on Zoom and telephone in just a few days.

"Something they would not do if they were at the senior center, because they would be thinking of traveling back home, waiting for a bus, or whatever it was. So, their enrichment has enhanced,” she says.

As the DFTA continues to provide services to older New Yorkers, they also encourage anyone to participate in other programming, like their wellness check-ins and social engagement calls.
