Drivers around the tri-state area are seeing higher tolls at
the MTA’s nine bridges and tunnels around New York City.
The increase is about 43% for E-ZPass users at most of the affected bridges and tunnels, which
is still around 40% cheaper than paying without it.
The MTA says they need the increases to help offset the $8
billion deficit they are facing through 2024. They say that the higher tolls
will bring in about $116 million annually.
The RFK, Whitestone, Throgs Neck and Verrazano bridges will
cost $6.55, and the Henry Hudson Bridge goes to $3.
The Cross Bay and Marine Parkway bridges is $2.45.
The hikes also include the creation of a new middle tier of
pricing, which is more expensive than the E-ZPass, but cheaper than paying without it.
According to the MTA website, E-ZPass tags need to be put on the windshield and not just held
up. It should be put on the label facing the driver with the arrows pointed up.
The agency says it should be placed on the top part of the windshield at least
one inch to the right of the rearview mirror support, and one inch below the
tinted part of the window.
