The New York City Office of Emergency Management updated New Yorkers on Thursday on their plans to keep New Yorkers safe during the stormy conditions hitting the city.  

Multiple city agencies including the city’s transportation and sanitation departments all provided updates on their efforts while urging New Yorkers to take proper precautions - such as only taking to the road or even to the sidewalk if necessary as temps drop and ice forms.  

The Sanitation Department says it will have its entire fleet out of 700 salt spreaders across all five boroughs treating roads and bike lanes, with 20 million pounds of rock salt expected to be used.  

The OEM also warned that those along the coast are at higher risk for flooding during the current stormy weather.
