5h agoWith the holiday travel rush still in full force, the NYPD and other New York City agencies came together to announce their plan to keep drivers safe this weekend.
The VisionZero initiative will focus on enforcing speeding and drunk driving. AAA predicts that nearly 104 million people traveling across the country may make their way to, from or through New York City.
An increased crackdown on speeding and drunk drivers will take place this weekend along streets and highways with cameras. According to AAA, around 1 in 15 Americans say they’ve recently operated a car while under the influence of alcohol.
“We’ve got the best transit in the country, the most transit options… We’ve got more for-hire vehicle drivers and taxi drivers than anywhere else in the country,” said Alec Slatky, managing director of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast. “So you have options here… your option is also always get a designated driver.”
AAA says to avoid traffic to travel before 12 p.m. or after 7 p.m. on Saturday.
