NYC officials say no threat to public after envelopes with white powder found at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan
New York City officials say there is no threat to the public after envelopes containing white powder were found Thursday afternoon at 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan.
They say it happened on the ninth floor at around 4 p.m.
Christopher Raia, assistant director in charge of the FBI's New York Field Office, said they were notified of five letters containing an unknown white powder found in the mailroom of the building, which was then evacuated.
New York City Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry says FDNY Hazmat teams, EMS, NYPD Emergency Service Department of Environmental Protection and New York City Emergency Management responded within minutes to ensure people's safety in and outside the building.
He added that the situation was under control shortly after without incident.
Daughtry also said they were waiting test results on the powder as of Thursday night.
