The Department of Parks and Recreation is inviting families to parks throughout the city for an evening of camping.
Orchard Beach is one participating location, and 30 New Yorkers will be chosen by lottery each week to become campers for the weekend.
In addition to learning about how to properly camp, families will have the opportunity to go on a guided hike with a park ranger.
"It gives New Yorkers an opportunity to really embrace their natural environment in a way that many really never got the chance to do," said Park Ranger Grant Wheeler.
Family camping is offered on weekends from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. at various participating parks.
