New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina is reportedly stepping down.
The 75-year-old has served as chancellor since 2013 but has been involved in the Department of Education for over 50 years.
Before Mayor Bill de Blasio pulled her out of retirement to serve as chancellor, she was a longtime teacher and a principal. Farina was also the superintendent of District 15 schools in Brooklyn before becoming a deputy chancellor under former Chancellor Joel Klein.
Farina is expected to formally announce her resignation at 12 p.m. today, possibly leaving before the end of the school year in June.
