Officials charged several organizers after shutting down a large party in Cypress Hills early Sunday morning.

The sheriff's department shut down an event at 2929 Atlantic Ave. around 3:30 a.m. They say dozens of people were inside in violation of emergency orders.

The New York City Sheriff's Office tweeted photos of the gathering. It says it charged five organizers with multiple misdemeanors, including three people from Brooklyn.

A spokesperson from the department told News 12 that deputy sheriffs were on patrol when they saw multiple people inside this location. Right before midnight, they say employees closed the gate halfway but continued to allow people inside.

When the sheriff's department entered, they say they found more than 167 people inside, while the maximum occupancy allowed by the Department of Buildings was 45.

The owner of the space told News 12 that she did have a private event Saturday but claims there were 89 people. She also admits that it should have ended earlier.

The owner adds that it's been hard to be a business owner during the pandemic.

Her friend, who is also an event space owner, says they need a way to put food on the table.

Some employees of the establishment are facing charges for violating administrative code, health code and alcoholic beverage laws, according to authorities.
