Anamaria Morrison’s best efforts to fix the problems in her NYCHA apartment are visible upon the first steps inside.
From patched-up holes with spackle and cardboard, exposed floors, leaks, a falling ceiling, and a rodent problem, Morrison says that her housing situation in her three-bedroom apartment has been anything but pleasant.
“I have four children, I can’t be living in these conditions,” said Morrison. "I'm embarrassed by this. I don't want to live like this."
Morrison says she’s reported these issues to NYCHA multiple times. She says several tickets still remain open, including one dating back to 2018 for floor repairs.
She says the floors rotted away in the bathroom and living room, and now she’s taking it upon herself, with help from a friend, to repair her bathroom floor with new tiles and wooden boards in her living room – all purchased with her own money.
NYCHA provided the following statement to News 12 regarding this ongoing incident:
“NYCHA staff were dispatched to conduct a full inspection of this apartment to assess for leak and mold conditions as well as pest exterminators to address rodent issues. We ask that all residents continue to use the MyNychaApp or call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 to create a work order ticket for any maintenance needs.”
