Maritza Ortiz tells News 12 her mailbox in her NYCHA apartment in Mott Haven has been broken for over a month.

She and her neighbors now have to go to a nearby post office to pick up their mail.

She said they can only do so from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., which is right in the middle of the work day.

Aside from the mailbox, Ortiz said the conditions in the building are horrible. News 12 crews walked into a flood in the lobby, as well as NYCHA crews working on a downed elevator.

News 12's crews went upstairs to see lights out in the hallway.

Ortiz says she had to buy a Ring camera after several of her packages were stolen. She says she feels unsafe in the building.

NYCHA sent News 12 the following statement:

“NYCHA staff are looking into these issues and will work to address them as soon as possible. NYCHA encourages residents in need of assistance to call the Customer Contact Center at 718-707-7771 or submit work tickets through the MyNYCHA application."
