The NYPD says officers struck a suspect in East Flatbush who refused to drop a firearm.

Officials say that the incident took place at the intersection of East 95th Street and Clarkson Avenue just after 3:15 p.m. Thursday No officers suffered injuries. One person was struck and transported to Kings County Hospital and is in stable condition.

The NYPD says officers were at the intersection of Kings Highway and Rockaway Parkway. It's an area they refer to as a "summer violence shooting zone" - one of 74 zones the department has focused on to decrease violence.

One sergeant and four officers observed a fight between a man and a woman, police say.

They say the woman dropped her bag and was apprehended by police, and a man attempted to flee on a Razor scooter.

Police say that male then emerged from a nearby driveway, where he was chased by officers who say they saw the man drop a purple 9 mm firearm. Police told the man went to drop the firearm when he went to pick it up, according to authorities.

Officers say he refused to drop the firearm, and that one officer shot the man once in the right thigh before applying a torniquet to slow the bleeding. The suspect who attempted to flee on the scooter was 17 years old. He is expected to be OK.
