A 12-year-old boy was shot in Morrisania on Tuesday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
Police say that the incident took place inside of a barber shop just before 1:30 p.m. in the vicinity of East 169th Street and Home Street. They say the victim was shot once in the left hand.
Surveillance video shows the moments after the gun went off. Multiple people were spotted on camera fleeing the barbershop, including that 12-year-old boy. One person drops what appears to be a gun and then picks it up before they run off.
According to the NYPD, the victim ran to his home on Fox Street, where a family member called 911.
The 12-year-old was transported to a hospital and is expected to be OK, according to officials.
“It’s surprising to me personally, I don’t see these kinds of things happening around here, I’ve been living here my whole life, this is a new barbershop," said nearby resident Eduardo.
Police currently do not have a description of the suspect and are investigating whether or not the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
