5h agoPolice say a 16-year-old girl was struck and killed by a truck on Neil Avenue Wednesday morning.
According to officials, a truck driver struck 16-year-old Alissa Kolenovic as she was crossing the street. Authorities identified the driver as Joseph Zillitto who was arrested and charged with failing to yield to pedestrian.
The fatal incident comes as advocates and elected officials rallied to pass the Victim's Rights and Safety Act, a package of eight bills to set safer speed limits and support victims and their families after crashes.
Mayor Eric Adams is also trying to build safer streets with a $4 million campaign to target speeding and dangerous driving.
