He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. News 12 is told the teenager lived near the area in the Melrose section of the Bronx.
News 12 is told “I love you” were the last words he told his friend, Hammad Singleton, before passing.
“I feel like my best friend didn't deserve this,” said Singleton, “He started closing his eyes and I tried to wake him up - he just literally dropped in my hands.”
Hendricks’ uncle tells News 12 Hendricks and his friends were at a birthday party when an argument broke out.
News 12 is told Hendricks just graduated from James Monroe High School and was on the basketball team.
Friends and family mourned the teen Monday, lighting hundreds of candles.
Detectives say they are investigating what led up to the shooting.
