The Kingsbridge Heights community is mourning 15-year-old Dafne Juan, one day after police say she died in a crash involving a stolen moped.

The crash took place at the intersection of University Avenue and West 192nd Street, according to police.

Authorities tell News 12 that Juan was just a passenger on the scooter when the 18-year-old man who was driving the moped crashed.

Witnesses at the scene told News 12 they saw the two teens crash into a Honda Pilot driving on the street.

"I see that same couple riding real fast all the time," said Jose Pinerio, a resident of the area. "I used to say to my friends, 'One day, they're going to have an accident.'"

Police say Juan was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say the 18-year-old moped driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He is now stable and in custody but hasn't been charged with any crimes as of yet.
