Two men were injured in a shooting Friday night in Melrose, according to police.

Detectives say it happened just before 9 p.m. at East 152nd Street and Cortlandt Avenue. They say a 30-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 31-year-old man suffered a graze wound. Both victims are expected to be OK.

Crime scene tape was still at the scene on Saturday morning.

According to NYPD statistics for the area, the number of shootings is on the rise – 34 last year and 51 this year through Dec. 15.

"Of course it's a tragedy. It's the holidays. Nobody wants to get shot during the holidays. It seems to be regular over here in this neighborhood, but you know how it goes," said Quay.

One man who did not want to give his name said he fears for his safety.

“After closing hours, you’ll never catch me walking out here. It's not worth it,” he said.

He works in the area and says he has seen people die on the same block.

“It's just an area where things always happen here…It's a shooting, somebody getting stabbed, somebody getting raped,” he said.

News 12 reported on four shootings and one stabbing happening within blocks of each other in November.

As for Friday’s shooting, police say it is an ongoing investigation and there is no information on a suspect or motive.
