The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a hefty reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest of two men who police say assaulted a cab driver before stealing his car.
Investigators say the incident took place at around 4 a.m. at the intersection of Astor and Tenbroeck avenues.
Cab driver Ramon Peña told News 12 that the two men were wearing masks and black sweatshirts when entering the vehicle. He asked them to remove the masks before getting into the car, and after he started driving, the two riders robbed him and threw him out of the car while it was moving.
The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a $3,000 reward to anyone who can help to identify those men.
Peña was joined by the taxi federation outside of High-Class Car Service on Friday to addressing the incident.
Fernando Mateo, the spokesperson for the NYST, says there have been around 50 incidents of assault against cab drivers within the last month reported to the president of the federation.
"He doesn't have the means of earning a living, so it's urgent that we get his car back as soon as possible," said Mateo. "It's probably out there somewhere in the city of New York. We don't know where, but we are asking the NYPD to put out an alert for a 2019 black [Toyota] Highlander with TLC plates."
The license plate is T796375C.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the NYPD.
