Two NYPD officers were stabbed and slashed by a man at the Pelham Parkway subway station early on Wednesday morning, police say.
Law enforcement officials say the incident took place just after 2:30 a.m. on the northbound No. 5 train platform when police responded to a 911 call for a man with a knife inside of the station.
Police say two officers approached the knife-wielding man who swung the knife at them without provocation. One officer suffered a stab wound to her left arm, and the other officer sustained a laceration to his chin. Both officers were taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition.
“I feel bad, because they are the ones who take care of us,” said community member Pura Bello. “Eighteen years here, nothing like this has ever happened. I’m with the police and their family members.”
The man with the knife, who police say is 40 years old, was taken into custody following the incident. No charges have been filed at this hour.
