The NYPD says a 36-year-old man is dead after being shot in the head and torso Thursday afternoon.

Police say they responded to a call for an assault just around 3:30 p.m. at 688 E 223rd St.

When they responded to the scene, they found the 36-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his body. The NYPD says the man was taken to Jacobi hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sources say the shooting may have happened after a dispute between the victim and another man. They say the suspect may have fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Currently, authorities say no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
