The NYPD says a third child was with 11-year-old Alfa Barrie and 13-year-old Garrett Warren on the night they went missing and witnessed the two pushing each other.
Authorities say the boy told police that the two boys were shoving each other before falling into the water. Police are still working to find out if any criminality was involved or if it was a tragic accident.   The NYPD is in need of the public’s assistance as they work to find out more specific details on what took place by the Harlem River where Warren and Barrie went missing over two weeks ago.
An intense police search led detectives and the NYPD Harbor Unit to find both boys dead. Warren’s body was found in the East River last Thursday, and Barrie’s body was found on Saturday in the Hudson River.
Police say the boys were seen in varying locations after being dismissed from school on May 12, including at a fish market, a deli and someone’s home.
At 6:40 p.m. that night, the two boys met up with a third boy near Fifth Avenue and 143rd Street when they went near the water – and that was the last time the two boys were seen alive.
At this hour, there’s no word on if the third boy was involved in the shoving, but police say there’s no indication that Warren or Barrie were anything but good kids.
The autopsy for Warren revealed the cause of death was an accidental drowning, but Barrie’s cause of death is still yet to be determined.
