Police say one person is dead after they crashed into a pole Monday morning on the Hutchinson River Parkway.

According to the NYPD, the crash happened at around 2:30 a.m. when Walden Spence, 49, was driving southbound on the parkway when he lost control.

Authorities say Spence veered off the road and hit a pole and a tree near exits 4 and 3.

The Hutchinson River Parkway south reopened after it was shut down for several hours.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
