A police source and vigil attendees connected to the family of Garrett Warren have confirmed that the body found in the East River Thursday morning is the missing 13-year-old.
The search for 11-year-old Alfa Barrie is ongoing. The NYPD Harbor Unit recovered the body in the East River near Harlem using a chopper and scuba divers. The body was brought by the unit to Randall's Island, and later it was identified to be Warren.
The two boys had last been seen at the intersection of 145th Street and Lenox Avenue on Friday night. The families of Warren and Barrie were at the 32nd Precinct Thursday evening. An organized search effort was held on 145th Street, where community members passed out flyers with pictures of both Barrie and Warren on it. Shortly after they gathered, they learned about the body and said they will continue to support the families.
