A grand jury indicted an NYPD commander on sex abuse charges Wednesday, and he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, according to the district attorney.
Deputy Inspector Keith Walton, head of the 49th Precinct, allegedly groped a female subordinate and forced her to reciprocate on Nov. 6, according to prosecutors. The charges against him include three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, official misconduct and more.
The judge released him after his arraignment, but he has been stripped of his badge and gun and placed on modified duty.
Community members attended the arraignment to support Walton, who they praised for his work to increase safety in their neighborhoods.
He is due back in court on Feb. 7.
If convicted, Walton faces up to two to seven years in prison.
